Attention Women born in the 1950s

WASPIHundreds of thousands of women across the UK have not received adequate or correct information about the rise in their state pension age. Most received no notification at all with massive consequences, so retirement plans have been destroyed, including financial loss. If you were born in the 1950s (after 6th April 1951) you urgently need to find out about your position by writing to the DWP.

A campaign group called Women Against State Pension Inequality (WASPI) has been set up to achieve fairer transitional arrangements, so the higher state pension age can be introduced more slowly. A local group is being set up following a meeting held in Storey Park Community Centre in Morpeth. Around 35 women attended the meeting set up and paid for by Cllr Andrew Tebbutt. Andrew says, “What has happened to women born in the 1950s is a disgrace and should be put right promptly, but the women affected need to act. Unfortunately many do not even know they are affected by this, so we need to spread the word. Anyone interested in learning more about what you need to do, please contact me and I will pass their details to the local WASPI co-ordinator.
